I am a Western Lifestyle Photographer based in Western North Dakota/Eastern Montana. My journey started when I was quite young, as my father always had a camera in hand. Dad has boxes of photos at home that we love to look back on and remember some great family moments. In fourth grade, we had a school project to come up with an invention – mine was a camera that would show you the picture on the back before it put the image to film, so you knew if you wanted to keep it or not. (Mind you, this was quite some time ago! Long before the DSLR cameras of today. If only I had understood the concept of patents and engineering such a camera back then.)
When I married and moved to my husband’s third generation family ranch, I began taking my old point and shoot camera with me to check water in the pastures, as my family and friends back home loved to see the images of cattle, horses and the western landscapes. (I am a transplant from Wisconsin!) We run a registered herd of Red Angus cattle here at Leland Red Angus, so photos were needed for our advertising campaigns and sale catalog and, since I was carrying the camera with, this job naturally fell to me.
With the birth of our first son in 2017, I purchased my first DSLR camera to capture and document Trey’s childhood memories. I also found myself on the sidelines more at brandings, team ropings and barrel races as I watched over our young son. I started taking more photos of the working cowboy – both on the ranch and in the arena. I love this western lifestyle that I am so blessed to live, and I truly appreciate the opportunities I have here on the ranch to capture these moments and share them with others.
Since 2019, the guys have dubbed me the “paparazzi” whenever my camera comes out as we are gathering and working cattle. They all may grimace, or duck under the brims of their hats when they see the camera in my hand, but they all check out the photos to see if I captured any good ones of them doing their thing when I post images online! Thus, “The Cowboy Paparazzi” logo was created for my working cowboy, ranch and livestock images.
